Childhood memories
Posted by Rue
When I was a child, a family used to come for mid-day lunch most Sundays. It was a lady and her two children. The father had died suddenly leaving the young family bereft, Mum had felt sorry for the family and so had asked them to Sunday Roast Dinner and so the lady got into the habit of just turning up every Sunday. Now I am older, I am able to see more clearly how a simple thing like visiting us ( a busy family of 5 children, Mum and Dad, animals like pigs, horses, chooks, an aviary of interesting birds and various other birds wandering around the house, lambs and calves in the springtime )- could provide some interest to their week. Remember that these were the early 1960's, when TV had the most basic of programs and were expensive, and computers didn't exist. I don't remember being bored - there was always things to do, usually outdoors. This family eventually shifted out of the district, and so the Sunday visits ceased. I wonder if Mum realised how much her kindness meant to this family.
